Efficient news reading

Still remember the experience of reading news paper: just several pieces of paper, but it can accompany you through long and boring periods as "...in W.C...in train...". It proves that if I want to read through the entire journal, I have to spend several hours! But, in fact, there are rare useful information for me!
Thanks to the boom of internet, one can browse nearly anything he want to learn just using the mouse pointer. Also thanks to modern information technology, ICPs can organize "news" and "olds" conveniently. But, I believe in most case, we just keep jumping from one hyperlink to another, therefore, the browsing may take great time and efforts from us. To be frank, it is a waste of time indeed.
People are always so smart that there are always so many changes on us everyday. Among those, there is one tiny stuff called "RSS". If you want to learn more about this abbreviation, please search through google.com. Currently, many websites offer content updates in RSS format. Correspondingly, there are many tools to read the RSS files. So, I don't need to tolerate the tiresome low speed to let sina, netease,.. show all they have to me. I just need the updated ones! It saves much of my time.
If you have any interests, I will guide you through the whole procedure of mine.
1. Choose one RSS reading tool, I choose Greatnews(Windows) and Liferea(Linux).
2. Choose RSS sources:
2.1 there are several places where people can discuss and save many interesting things together:such as digg(http://digg.com/rss/index.xml), populicious(http://populicio.us/newlinks.rss), reddit(http://reddit.com/.rss). After subcribing to those RSS feeds, I can obtain one rough understanding of those people are talking about mostly.
2.2 I choose google news as the main source of domestic news. I don't like baidu news search, because it just directly shows you ALL what it gets by sending you over one thousand "news" to you in no more than one hour, then what is the key points?
2.3 If you are interested in interesting new engadgets, you can subcribe to this feed: http://www.engadget.com/rss.xml
2.4 Because I want to know the development of Linux and other open source projects, I also read feeds from lwn, slashdot, linux today.
...
...
...
3. After the process of subscription, most of the configuration is done.
Then, all you have to do will be: Open the tool, click the "update all" button, and the tool will collect all those you want to be informed from google, linux today, .... And then, you can just spend a little time to keep yourself updated.
....
...
...
The above bunch of words is just one exercise for English, if you really want to learn more, please refer to the article:

Are you ready? GO!

(Mind Mapping)

Freemind

My thoughts about GTD on Palm

As you know, GTD means Get Things Done.
First question: Why PDA?
I believe we all have the experience of keeping telling ourselves not to forget something very important, and because of that, that thought may interrupt you greatly even every 5 miniues. It certainly leads to low efficiency, because we cannot focus on the job we were doing. So we need one reliable system which can help us not miss everything we hope to do. Here, you may said, " Oh, yeah, I've had the system, Microsoft Outlook!" I admit that Outlook is a powerful tool, but because it runs on PC, you cannot take it with you. You cannot promise to be always in front of your computer. PDA is a little one that you can put it in your pocket. If you've got one PDA, it may seems that you've also got one personal secretary who is always with you. PDA is reliable then all you shall do is to record the messages on PDA, and when you shall turn to sth., it can notify you. So you will never have to keep reminding yourself of something nervously..so that you can greatly improve your job quality and efficiency.
Second question: How can we?
There are many software devoted to helping us Get our Things Done on Palm, such as Life Balance, Datebk5, ... I choose Lift Balance and Datebk5. Datebk5 can deal well with periodical events and other assignments related to your timetable. If I shall interview somebody this evening, I will open databk5 and choose the period 18:00-- 19:00 of today, and turn on alerting. And by default, when it is 17:55, my PDA will keep beeping to remind me of that. So it is not likely that I can miss the important assignment. If you encounter something not greatly related to your timetable, you can use the other tool: Lift Balance. The main advantage of this tool is that you are offered to define several "place", which can be open or close according to the defined open and close time. That means that you don't have to pay attention to the office stuffs when you are "home" after 21:00, because it can "close" them. For example, yesterday evening, your boss phoned you that you should make a call to Bill Gates when you were in office. To deal with this event, you opened Life Balance and chose the place: "Office", entered the message and then continued with your sleeping. This morning, when you were in office, you took out your PDA and wanted to know what you should do today, then you get told by PDA that you shall make a call to Bill.
Other tools?
Yes, if you are dealing with some big projects, so Bonsai, project@hand and somthing else can help you greatly. Maybe we can discuss them in the near future.

Using freemind to obtain good understandings of your programs

Today, I'd like to introduce one excellent tool called: freemind to you...You can obtain the latest version from http://freemind.sourceforge.net. It is a Java program, so you still need to download Java run-time environment. That website also tells you the exact link to download the enviroment.
I believe it is a very good tool for me to understand the complicated computer programs, including the linux kernel.
I also had the experiences of using Visio. To be honest, you can draw very beautiful flowcharts by the tool. Because some programs are so complex, I have to draw many many text boxes to represent the functions within the entire flow. And because of the limited layer, I also had to do many works to adjust the positions of all the text boxes and all the arrows.
Freemind is not just designed to draw flowcharts, its main aim is to help you trace the status of one big projects.
Thought the branching, you can divide your big project into several smaller "projects", and then more smaller projects... Also, you can freely collapse or expand the branches to obtain more clear understandings.
Besides the above, freemind can do the adjustment job instead me when I want to add something into quantities of text boxes, which is the biggest advantage for me, so I like it...

My second PDA -- Palm Tungsten W

My first PDA is one palm125. During that days, I kept trying popular softwares I'd learnt from tompda forum. One day when I was learning English by Sugarmemo on it, my gf said, "oh, it is a wonderful thing, I'll like to get one, too." And just at that time, my mobile phone was dying, the LCD screen was turning dimmer and dimmer, I can hardly read the message on the screen when it was dark around me. So I was determined to buy one PDA with the functionarity of mobile phone, and of course it must be cheap.
During the period of searching, I began to have interest in Palm Tungsten W. something of that model:
* 320x320 resolution.
* colorful LCD screen displaying
* built-in keyboard
* mobile phone
* supports SD/MMC card
*...
Because I didn't have much knowledge of palm at that time, I didn't care much about the OS version of the handheld device. As we all know today, the OS version is palm 4.1.2
According to my knowledge, I thought that it must be cheaper in Taiwan. Since I would have a business trip to Taipei soon, I hoped I can get cheaper one in Taipei.
...
After several days, I was in Taipei. As soon as I was free in that weekend, I sincerely ask Spencer to take me to "GuangHua Shang Chang". I kept searching everywhere, and I didn't wanna miss one possible vendor... It disappointed me much that they didn't have any in their stock because TW is an really old model!
...
After I returned to hotel, I found some in taobao website, and the vendors are in Zhejiang!
...
Thanks to the boom of "electronical commerce(sorry, because I can't remember the correct word)", I finally got one through taobao from one Hangzhou seller.
People told me that vodafone version doesn't have good batteries. Though it really has one big vodafone logo on it, I still like it much...
...
Because my "old" mobile phone was unusable, I held palm TW tightly and presented the "old" palm to my gf. I sincerely hope that she can greatly improve her English through the palm.
...
Girls always care for clothings much more than electrical stuffs. After several days, the poor palm evently couldn't escape from the destiny of lying lonely with dust on the table. &%^~!@#%^$%.

my first PDA-palm 125
